Switzerland is the world's happiest country, according to a new survey

In the World Happiness index created by Network Solutions for the Sustainable Development of the United Nations, Switzerland appeared in the first rank.

Under the country well known as the realm of the clock and chocolate are Iceland, Denmark, Norway, and Canada. Indexing the data based on the Gallup poll and the number of variables, such as real gross domestic product per capita, the average life expectancy, level of corruption, and social freedom.

"Happiness is increasingly seen as an appropriate way to measure social progress and fulfillment of public policy. More and more number of national and local governments that use data and research happiness in the policy making process that allows people to live better, "said the index report.

Togo, Burundi, Benin and Rwanda, with civil-war wracked Syria, were least happy.

Team compilers of the index is a composite of a number of backgrounds, such as academic, government, and the private sector. The index is reviewing 158 countries and was first launched in 2012.
